LEAD STORY

How and Why to Have Transformative Conversations

In September, I had the pleasure of conducting workshops for two different clients. For both, the value of the time together was as much about the dialog that ensued as it was about meeting the objectives of the workshop. (These workshops begin the second phase of our ABC methodology, Build.”)

“We never talk about stuff like this,” one of the senior leaders told me. “It was really helpful to take some time and talk about who we are as an organization and who we want to be.”

That is not uncommon for three main reasons. First, if your organization runs at a particularly fast-pace meeting real-life needs, it’s easy to focus on the day-to-day and nothing else. Those squeaky wheels are always hogging up all the oil!

In-house agency or outsourced? Which is better?

In-house agency or outsourced? That’s a question that organizations of all shapes and sizes will have to wrestle with as the labor market continues to tighten. To explore the question, we sat down with Spencer Brenneman’s Senior Art Director, Kim Vanni. She has been on both sides of the coin, having run in-house studios as well as working as a freelancer.

Why should organizations even bother with having an in-house creative team? Why not just outsource it all? Having an in-house creative resource can be extremely beneficial to an organization in two specific ways: First, an in-house graphic designer will be an expert on your organization’s brand (I’ll have more to say on that in a bit), and second, will save you time, especially when materials are needed quickly.

MISSION DRIVERS

The Northeast Regional Children’s Advocacy Center

In this recurring feature of Focal Point, we profile people and organizations on a mission! If you have someone to suggest, let us know! This month, we’re featuring one of our clients: the Northeast Regional Children’s Advocacy Center.

The Northeast Regional Children’s Advocacy Center (NRCAC) enhances the important work of professionals helping child abuse victims.

NRCAC equips state chapters, child advocacy centers (CACs), and multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) in the Northeast Region with the tools needed to help children heal. These professionals are tasked with effectively serving our most vulnerable population while also thinking about training, technical support, and staying connected with the rest of the world. NRCAC helps them with bespoke needs, such as the latest training and technical assistance, as well as facilitating connection and collaboration within the region and beyond.

MESSAGING ON A MISSION

Listen Up: New Episodes Available!

Check out our two episodes of Messaging on a Mission from July! (We took August off. Sorry!) New episodes arrive starting September 8, 2022!

If you or your organization have a story to share about how your message impacts your work, don’t be shy! Let us know! We’re always looking for new guests.

Well Said

"The upward course of a nation's history is due in the long run to the soundness of heart of its average men and women."

— Queen Elizabeth II

Elizabeth II, born April 21, 1926, was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from February 1952 until her death in September 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime and 15 at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days is the longest of any British monarch and the second-longest verified reign of any sovereign in history.
