Project Overview

The Board of Hoboken Charter School (HCS) wanted to improve how HCS communicated with parents, students, teachers, staff, and prospective major donors. Specifically, they wanted to set prospective parents’ expectations better and engage more parent support; continue to recruit teachers who fully represent the student body and align with the School’s mission, and engage corporate sponsors and foundations to provide increased financial support.

A Brand Refreshed!

First, we helped HCS to clarify why their work matters. That included updating their message and how it comes to life verbally.

New Hoboken Charter School Logo

The color palette was chosen to bring the school's natural vibrancy to life. The H of the logo pays homage to the two buildings connecting the lower, middle, and upper schools. It also serves as a nice metaphor for the coming together HCS hopes to inspire in the world.

Logo Configurations

We also created multiple configurations of the logo, including one for the Friends of Hoboken Charter School organization. Their mascot, the Cougar, also received some love.

Iconography

One of the ways HCS has been able to reimagine learning for a just world is through its four educational design elements. We updated the icons for these elements which feature prominently everywhere.

Glow Treatment

To further highlight the vibrancy of the school and its students, Sr. Art Director Kim Vanni created a glow effect to use judiciously around student images.

Website

The previous website was outdated, flat, and visually bland. Because HCS is a lean organization, we created a new one using WIX—a cost-effective and easy to maintain platform.

Brochure

HCS is ready for Open Houses, VIP guests, and fundraising discussions with this simple but compelling brochure.

Brand Guide

We take brand protection extremely seriously, so we always provide full guidelines for the brand’s implementation now, and in the future.

Launch Presentation

To promote the new brand and ensure their investment pays off, we supported HCS as they launched it on Day 1 of the new school year. That included a presentation to teachers and staff, explaining the changes.

Postcards

The roll-out started with postcards to all students and donors. These were later follow-up with emails from the executive director.

Social Media Templates

Social media posts about the school finished out the pre-launch.

Step & Repeat Banner

A step and repeat banner greeted parents and students on Day 1, perfect for first-day-of-school photos as well as other occasions. We designed pull-up banners for them too.

T-Shirts!

On Day 1, all students, faculty, and staff got t-shirts with the new Charter School brand.

Signage

We also created a vinyl signing for them to use at events.
