Welcome to the New Spencer Brenneman!

And welcome to Focal Point, Spencer Brenneman’s new monthly newsletter. Why the new newsletter? Simple: It matches the new focus of Spencer Brenneman. We are moving from helping organizations with their brand strategies to helping them with their overall focus and messaging strategies.

That’s not all. We’re also turning our attention to mission-driven organizations: not-for-profits, associations, social enterprises, and B Corps.

“By applying the experience and talents of the Spencer Brenneman team, he knows he can help those who were helping us all.”

“All the sheltering in place gave me an unexpected opportunity to step back and think about the business, my life, and the world around me,” says Spencer Brenneman Founder Douglas Spencer. “Although we have always helped organizations with their messaging, it’s been under their brand’s umbrella. As we all begin to rebuild our lives and organizations to fit into some kind of a new normal, having an updated, relevant, and compelling message is more important than ever.”

Especially for mission-driven organizations.

CLIENT SPOTLIGHT
Leading Cities, Inc.

Spencer Brenneman is already working with many mission-driven organizations, including one that champions the innovative work that helps abused children and another that helps companies improve diversity, equity, and inclusion for LGBTQ+ professionals.

This summer, we also helped Leading Cities, a global non-profit trying to make the world’s cities smarter. Leading Cities had a challenge. The work they do and the work they support is both comprehensive and complicated. How could they talk about it in a way that wasn’t?

“Hey! Did you change your hair? There’s something different about you.”

Yes, yes, there is. To align our brand with our new focus, the Spencer Brenneman team applied their skills inward and updated our verbal and visual identity, both of which come to life most prominently in our new website!

We updated our brand personality attributes, which means that both our verbal and visual identities had to reflect those changes.

Focal Pointing

In addition to monthly topics on messaging, Focal Point will offer this new section: Focal Pointing! It will share some of the books, podcasts, and emails that are helping us learn, create, and grow.

Well Said

Find the good. It’s all around you. Find it, showcase it, and you’ll start believing in it.

—Jesse Owens

Born this month in 1913, Jesse Owens was an American track and field Olympian who achieved international fame at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany, by winning four gold medals. He was the most successful athlete at the Games and, as a Black man, was credited with “single-handedly crushing Hitler’s myth of Aryan supremacy.”
